A brief presentation

Calafou is a cooperative project that was born in 2011 with the aim of generating productive, technological and housing alternatives that are sustainable and respectful of the environment, promote social transformation and community learning. For this purpose, the collective purchase of an old industrial colony on the outskirts of Vallbona d'Anoia, the Colonia de Ca l'Afou, which gives its name to the project, is launched. This, in disuse for years and significantly deteriorated, has 28,000m2 of space, among which there are industrial warehouses, green spaces and a building of 27 homes.

Calafou is a self-organized project that includes spaces for industrial, artisanal and creative activities, common infrastructures for the realization of meetings and diverse activities, and other more intimate spaces for community life. All of them accessible at fair prices and significantly lower than market prices, since the space also demands and makes possible the reconstruction and improvement of the project / place. The formula we use for access to housing is the purchase of the transfer of the right of use by the cooperative and, for productive spaces, rent at social prices with services and resources shared between all the people and projects involved.

Since its inception, the aim is to develop a community based on a network of cooperatives, individual projects and housing within a collectivized space. We seek to share ideas, goods and resources to foster synergies both within and beyond the colony. A place for social, technological and political innovation based on self-responsibility and cooperation, sharing and interacting with other transformative projects. A project where economies are at the service of people allowing their needs, in terms of access to resources and tools, not to hinder the realization of their creative potentials.
